God Can Work with Restrictions
Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, a descendant of David, in accordance with my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. 2 Timothy 2:8,9 – EHV
This Sunday you will hear a reading from Acts 24 that might seem a bit disconnected. In the lesson Paul stood before the Roman governor and recited his case to Felix. He mentions the resurrection of Jesus twice. But what meaning does that have to us in April 2020?
Paul’s hearing before Felix leads to his 2-year imprisonment in Palestine, his voyage and shipwreck, and eventual imprisonment in Rome. Paul was restricted. It didn’t make very much sense, but God could work with Paul’s chains and all the restrictions that came with it. His saving gospel was not chained then. It’s not chained now.
A classmate of mine who serves in Eastern Wisconsin wrote this encouragement: “We might be limited, but God is not. Even with our restrictions and our limitations, God works through us. His word reaches hearts and brings hope. We can’t always see it. We don’t see it here when Paul was speaking to Felix. But Paul was faithful and God was working.”
Stay-at-Home restrictions don’t hinder God’s Word. Based on how many are sharing and viewing our videos and posts, more people are being reached than ever before. God’s people, keep sharing your faith!
God’s peace be with you!
